Hollywood authorities arrested a man carrying the remains of two women in trash bags in the back of his van. Reynard Waits, to avoid the death penalty, life imprisonment negotiated in exchange for his revelations about other murders he committed, including that of Marie Gesto. That’s ten years that this case unsolved haunts Inspector Harry Bosch who never ceases to reopen the case.

The officer must then confront the killer to get the final word in history. But Reynard Waits is really the murderer of Marie Gesto? Harry Bosch is brought quickly to doubt it. The events are then sequenced so evil and intrigue to its full extent.

Opinion:
This thriller will devour. After a start that may seem long, the pace becomes more sustained and of action everywhere. Behind the basic story is interwoven throughout a series of investigations against Harry Bosch.

This is one of those stubborn police following his instincts and also pass rules for the purposes of the investigation. It attaches quickly to the character, his character and his relationships. This detective novel reads easily and for the delight of the reader.

Echo Park is the first of Michael Connelly me past the hands. After reading this, I only want to do is read other novels by Michael Connelly!

Recreation and Parks staff has put the finishing touches on the reconstructed Echo Park Lake Bridge, completing their work an entire week before the 29th Annual Lotus Festival.

Deteriorated to the point where it was unsafe to cross, the bridge and island were closed to park users. In the interim, with the exception of the occasional filming or special event, the island has become a de facto bird sanctuary.

Recreation and Parks, Metro Griffith Park Construction Services crews under the supervision of Larry Mottler stripped the bridge of all its wood decking and rails, all the way down to the steel support structure. With pontoons as a work platform, the crew stripped the paint, rebuilt the wooden deck and railing, repaved the approach, and finally repainted the bridge.

At the urging of the Echo Park Historical Society several layers of red paint were peeled away from the steel structure to expose 4 or more layers of green, last seen over more than 14 years ago before the bridge was unfortunately painted red. The green bridge can also be appreciated in the 1974 film classic Chinatown.

By September it is anticipated that a new decorative, artist designed and fabricated gate will replace the steel bars that currently restrict access to the bridge and that the island will might be made accessible for special events or possibly during daylight hours.

Special thanks to Council President Eric Garcetti and District Director Mitch O’Farrell for facilitating the discussions between Recreation and Parks and the Echo Park Historical Society that resulted in a historically sensitive reconstruction of this Echo Park Landmark.

Additional thanks to the Recreation and Parks construction crew: Head Carpenter Louis A. Suarez, Carpenters Omar Vegas and James Shakir, Apprentice Carpenter Bryan Kelly, and Helper Jose Ramos.

More than two dozen Echo Park residents equipped with cameras and notebooks roamed Sunset Boulevard on a recent Saturday morning to identify the problems and discover the potential of the neighborhood’s downtown.

The exercise was the first major step toward a face-lift of the Sunset Boulevard commercial district. More than $300,000 from the Targeted Neighborhood Initiative-a city program to intended to revitalize Echo Park’s downtown area-has been budgeted to improve storefronts. That money could be spent on creating more attractive signage or restoring the historic features of some buildings.

Representative from a variety of local groups-from the Echo Park Community Garden to El Centro Del Pueblo-were invited to attend the Saturday morning workshop. Urban planners from the RRM Group of San Luis Obispo were on hand to lead the workshop in conjunction with Councilmember Jackie Goldberg and her staff.

After taking photos and notes about cluttered signage and favorite store fronts, residents-with markers, crayons and pens in hand-drew their ideas for improvement on large maps of the downtown area. Suggestions ranged from a landscaped median strip down Sunset to restoring vintage store fronts to building symbolic gateways.

The designers from RRM Group will now digest the residents’ ideas and responses and come up with a preliminary strategy to improve Storefronts and other features of downtown Echo Park.

Residents will get more opportunities in the months ahead to comment on those strategies and come up with more ideas.

Through the tireless lobbying efforts of The Echo Park Historical Society, Lady of the Lake, an art deco sculpture that graced the shores of Echo Park Lake for more than fifty years before it was placed in storage in 1986, has been restored to her lake side home.

On May 6th, Lady of the Lake was moved by truck and hoisted into position by crane at her new location on the east shore of Echo Park Lake, near the Boat House. The reinstatement and conservation of the sculpture was undertaken by the City of Los Angele’s Cultural Affairs Department with the assistance of Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg’s office.

Over the years, Lady of the Lake had sustained considerable wear and damage. The sculpture had numerous cracks and chips, particularly around the figure’s midriff and head. In some areas, the rusted rebar from the interior structure of the sculpture was exposed. The sculpture’s surface was marred by grime, bird droppings, Corporealizing the flighty bird, and graffiti, and, sadly, her fingers were missing on both hands.

Conservator (and Echo Park resident) Linnaea Dawson with the Sculpture Conservation Studio began work on restoring the sculpture in July. The sculpture was thoroughly cleaned and cracks and chips were filled with a mortar custom made to match the original surface and texture. Using historic photographs as a guide, new fingers for Lady of the Lake were created in clay and then cast with the same the custom repair mortar and set into place using threaded stainless steel rods and an epoxy adhesive. To deter vandalism, an anti-graffiti coating was applied to the sculpture.

Lady of the Lake is an Art Deco cast stone (concrete) sculpture of a monumental standing female figure on a tiered pedestal decorated with landscape and cityscape designs. She stood on the north side of Echo Park Lake for 52 years. In 1986, she was put into storage in the Park’s maintenance yard to make room for the new pump house.

Officially titled Queen of the Angeles, the sculpture fondly referred to as Lady of the Lake was created by award-wining sculptor Ada May Sharpless as a Works Progress Administration project in 1934. Sharpless was born in 1904 and raised in Santa Ana. She was a graduate of USC and studied in Paris for four years. Other examples of her work can be seen at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana.

Come learn about our neighborhood’s heritage on Saturday, Nov. 6! That’s when the EPHS will hold the third Echo Park History Day, an all-day event celebrating our neighborhood’s past with guest speakers, a photographic exhibit, walking tours, oral histories, a raffle, a bake sale and more.

Echo Park History Day will feature speakers Don Normark, whose photographs of Chavez Ravine were published earlier this year as “1949: Chavez Ravine”, and a representative from Southwest Museum, who will discuss the Indians who once lived in Elysian Park.

Volunteers will be on hand to interview and videotape longtime residents of Echo Park. In addition to photographs and maps from the EPHS archives, there will be a new exhibit of photos from families who have lived in the neighborhood for multiple generations.

The first Echo Park History Day was held in 1995, offering a tour of the Atwater Estate and the first organized collection of local historic memorabilia. The enthusiastic response led community activists to realize there needed to be a group addressing Echo Park’s heritage on a full-time basis. A month later, volunteers met to begin forming the Echo Park Historical Society.

Madrid .- Michael Connelly, American author of famous novel, has picked up in “Echo Park” Harry Bosch, the legendary character who embodies a Los Angeles detective in many of his works, before retiring finally in a book whose singularity is the exploration of pure evil. ”

The American author Michael Connelly crime novel after the interview with Efe during the presentation of his new book, “Echo Park”, a story in which his most famous character, Detective Harry Bosch has a chance to reopen case solved in the past.

Connelly, during the presentation of “Echo Park” in Spain, stressed that his books are usually about an exploration of the various shades of good and evil, “but felt that this time the enigmatic Harry Bosch is faced with a character” featuring the most intense of evil. ”

After eleven novels Bosch central character, its creator said that “one of the most wonderful gift that a writer can receive is to have a character like him so fascinating and you evolve,” and stressed his pleasure at having followed this trend Through more than a million words on a single character.

However, Connelly believes that the famous detective, first created in 1992 with The Black Echo, a novel that received the Edgar Award, and can not travel much, because, ironically, has 56 years and will retire as all police officers in Los Angeles, where more economically convenient. ”

In “Echo Park, Bosch has the opportunity to reopen a case in which he worked in the past and was left unresolved, as is the murder of Marie Gesto couple, disappeared thirteen years ago.

In the confession of a man who said he was behind the assassination of the young, the shrewd detective senses that there is more behind the circumstances surrounding the case and the interest of a politician to reach a pact with the suspect.

The latest novel translated into Spanish Connelly is an exciting book with a clever plot police whose pieces just fit together perfectly, and is an invitation to enter into the relationship between politicians and the police force and a reflection on the tragic consequences that can result error in an investigation.

The author, who acknowledges the influence that his long period of previous events as a journalist in his writing, he emphasized that his writing style reflects the “perfect” this act: short sentences that are agile and accurate to the story.

In fact, says that writing novels is documented “exactly like” which would make a journalist, conducts research, go to the places it describes, detectives spoke with friends and draws his stories many times of the talks it has with them and cases that you have.

The character of Harry Bosch is also “a mixture” of people that have had contact over the years, and admits that “possibly” would have liked to be a detective, but that would have not passed through the upstream necessary to achieve this, the uniformed police.

Despite being one of the main perpetrators of crime novel, Connelly says that lately does not read this genre, underlined that United States can not write a book if they are to succeed in that not a crime, something that linked to the fact that all the leisure culture “turn around the crime.”

The writer, based in Tampa (on the west coast of Florida), believes that in his novels, set in Los Angeles, seeks to “deepen the shadows behind the gleaming star of the universe” and considers that Los Angeles is, along with Harry Bosch, a character in his novels, “so that there is a mixture between the character and the city.”

Bayer has a well-established tradition of environmental protection, which began more than 100 years ago when it set up its Wastewater Commission at its production plants at Leverkusen, Germany, in 1901. Since then Bayer has consistently stuck to the principle of more environmental protection, health protection, safety and Sustainable Development.

As a research-based enterprise, Bayer also places great emphasis on promoting science education for young people and has therefore been committed to promoting youth environmental programs for many years. In cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Bayer organizes and promotes a number of specific projects which aim to improve knowledge about the environment among young people and support them in their environmental commitment. One of these projects is the “Bayer Young Environmental Envoy Program”.

Under this program, selected students go to Germany on a weeklong study tour to experience how environmental protection is practiced by people, government and industry in one of the leading countries with regards to technology and environmental awareness.

The visit to the global headquarters of the Bayer Group in Germany demonstrates how companies – through product development and responsible manufacturing processes – contribute to sustainable development.

Initiated in 1998 as a local project in Thailand, the program included participants from the Philippines and Singapore from 2001 on. The program was further extended to India in 2002, China in 2003, and Poland, Indonesia, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador in 2004, and Peru as well as Kenya in 2005. In 2006, Vietnam and Malaysia join the program for the first time.

The program has received widespread praise. Philippine’s President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo describes the initiative as ‘a meritorious project, particularly in the wake of pressing environmental problems in the country’. Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs said that Bayer has put together a program that deserves praise, and will stand to go a long way in promoting sustainable development among youth in Asia. Mr Carmén Arevalo, Colombian Vice-Minister of the Environment said that “Corporate projects that give young people the opportunity to actively participate and discuss such an important issue are highly valuable, and the Ministry of Environment and Territorial Development endorses this initiative of Bayer launched in the context of corporate social responsibility.”
