timthumb8The name of a story is because the volume of traffic is no longer measured in megabytes or in borders or in petas, even exabytes, but to reach the age of zetabyte. Exactly traffic 2013 is two thirds of a zetabyte or, what is the same, 667 exabytes. Last year the projection was 522 exabytes per year until 2012, but the economic crisis has made them reduce that number to 510.

The Silicon Valley firm dedicated to infrastructure networks, presents a detailed study of what will happen in 2013. Which presents a fundamental fact is that 91% of the total network traffic is video in all its forms, when the current is one third of the total. Within four years, online video will mean 60%, the rest will be due to television or video on demand and P2P. Communications traffic video will increase 10 times in 2013 and video on demand will double every year like the mobile phones. 64% of this traffic will also be video.

Respect to peer traffic, the famous P2P, but will grow quite modest figures, 18% per year. While today’s P2P accounts for 50% of all Internet within five years will mean only 20%.

In this time where it is going to grow the traffic is going to be in Africa, Middle East and Latin America. The crisis will pass a bill that Western Europe, the ongoing second global traffic is clearly exceeded by United States.
