Help Prevent the Demolition of a Historic Echo Park Neighborhood

The Right Site Coalition is encouraging the community to help stop the needless destruction of the historic homes on the proposed elementary school site known as Site 9A. The neighbors may have been run out of their homes with illegal threats and intimidation by real estate contractors working for LAUSD, but the historic fabric of this abandoned community still stands. echo17They’ve set to date! The Echo Park Historical Society is about to produce its first-ever EPHS 2003 Historic Home Tour, scheduled to take place one day only, on Sunday, November 9 from 11 am to 4 pm

Titled “Restored, Remodeled and remade,” the Historic Echo Park Home Tour will feature homes in and around Echo Park in a variety of styles – transitional Victorian, Craftsman bungalows, Spanish 20s, mid-century cottage – in settings that range from humble street corners to hillside views.  (more…)

Mystique for Enduro Echo Park ’s “Most Famous Cat in the World”

Put simply, Room 8 was – is – one of the Park Echo’s most famous residents, and, between rock stars, art stars, writers and intellectuals, political luminaries, we have had quite our share.There are photographs of the self-Possessed Tabby on Echo Park Historical Society calendars and mounted on the wall of local restaurants, there’s the mural on the side of Elysian Heights Elementary, there are testimonials – Dozens of them – carved into the cement on Baxter St . and Echo Park Ave in front of the school where children wrote their names and a few personal words about the feline superstar.
